Are you reacting or proacting?
It can greatly affect the quality of yor life!
Healthcare systems around the world can be accurately described as “sick care systems” because when people get sick, they go to doctors for treatment. Countries and systems that take a proactive approach to health – helping people live their lives in ways that make them healthier – are truly rare.
Everyone wants to live longer, but what is your preference?
- Quality of life? Or
- The number of years you get to live?
Most would opt for a long and healthy life, in other words, both! But if you are healthy, your chances of living longer increase. Maintaining your health has never been easier because of modern medical developments and technologies.
A few days back, one of my patients was furious. During her annual checkup, her primary physician prescribed a blood test to check her vitals. She believed the test was superficial because it had a detailed description of common health measures but didn’t analyze preventive biomarkers. I was really impressed by her approach: she was genuinely curious about the secrets of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. She wanted a checklist to adopt a healthy lifestyle, maintain high energy, and follow preventative measures to avoid getting sick.
Her approach reminded me to explain to my readers the concept of reactive and proactive medicine and the difference between the two.
Reactive medicine treats disease, an adverse condition, injury, or symptom. Consider this: suppose you get body ache and fever and react to the symptoms by visiting a doctor, who will prescribe you the reactive medicines (painkillers, antibiotics, etc.). By contrast, proactive medicine focuses on the prevention, detection, and treatment of disease in its earlier stages.
Many of my patients benefit from a combination of reactive and proactive medicine because they approach me after developing symptoms indicating onset of a disease. Treating disease is important it’s more important to make sure the diagnostics are correct and the root cause of symptoms is identified.
The definition of a reactive life is when you react to the random events occurring in your life instead of planning and creating the reality you want to live in. And choosing reactive medicine means you are leading a reactive life! Some tools used by reactive medicine are surgery, pharmaceutical drugs, and other invasive procedures performed on the basis of the developed symptoms and stage of the disease.
The choice of reactive or proactive medicine depends on the level of trust you have in your physician. It also reflects the interest and commitment you show towards your life.
Have you ever thought of taking control of your life, health, and your wellbeing? You only live once, and you can only enjoy your life if you have good health. So why not choose a healthy lifestyle? Instead of wasting time and money, improve your quality by maintaining your well-being and energy levels: that’s what Proactive Medicine enables.
Leading a proactive life means you wake up every day with a new spirit, you feel strong and important, you want to fulfill your dreams, you plan adventures, you spend money on things you like to have and experience. Everything makes you feel good and supports your drive for peak performance. It means that a random event cannot be a setback for you.
The prime goal of Proactive Medicine to live a lifestyle that’s fully aligned with your life goals. The successful tools of proactive medicine are
- Creating and maintaining a successful mindset to achieve your goals.
- Obtaining a full nutrigenomic report to reveal any nutritional deficiency, and undergoing other functional testing
- Functional medicine testing
- Holistic Medicine
- A healthy diet and optimized nutrition
- Customized supplementation
- Daily workouts – Yoga, exercise, jogging, running, etc.
The tools used by proactive medicine come under the title of “real preventive care” which is a totally different approach from “annual checkups”. While the 7-minute annual checkup is a diagnostic tool that analyzes your organs, “real preventive care” tests your gut function, brain chemicals, metabolic function, endocrine function, nutritional deficiency, and your genetic capacity for nutrition, exercise, and detoxification. Real preventive care helps you find and alleviate root causes of diseases, instead of doing treatment after you have developed symptoms. Sometimes symptoms take a long time to surface, so diagnosis is delayed and treatment is ineffective.
So, where do you stand? Do you want to lead a proactive or reactive life? Do you want to go for the option of “Real preventive care” to take charge of your health and your life? As a functional medicine doctor, I suggest you choose the proactive option and live your life to the fullest! We have specialized tools available to help you live a proactive life. Our tools will help you find out what is going on in your body years before things get out of hand!
