January mailboxes are filled with goal-setting and motivational emails. However, most of the momentum fades off quickly. In my younger years, usually by March, I had found myself disappointed and blaming myself and everything else for my failed efforts. What I didn’t realize at that stage of my life is that motivation and goal setting are not to blame. The missing piece was the “Why?” – specific and clearly defined. At that time, I discovered the concept of a Definite Major Purpose. And it had all the answers. For many years, I have kept up with my streamlined process of keeping my vision and motivation taking me to places I want to be.

I took January this year to clarify and modify my Definite Major Purpose for the next 5 years and work on key areas in my Life Journey Workbook.

I realized that most people don’t continue with the process of setting lifetime goals because it is too broad a subject and it holds many fears and subconscious limitations. But it doesn’t have to be.

So, I created a process that has proven successful for me and the clients I shared it with. And it is simple and fun.

I always start with the Health aspect of my life, followed by 8 more life categories.

I want to share the most important points of that process regarding your Health and Wellness goals. Everything starts with Health. 

A Definition of a Definite Major Purpose

Being a huge fan of Napoleon Hill, I like to create a Definite Major Purpose for each life category and, in the end, summarize them all in one. 

Setting your Definite Major Purpose truly starts with a wish.

  • What do you want out of life?
  • Where are you going?
  • What will you have achieved by the end of your life if you keep doing the things you are doing now in the way you are doing them? 

The statement “by the end of your life” bothers me because I want to enjoy the unfolding of my life now. In addition, it is too general for me, as I tend to have many wishes 😉 So, keeping the format, I think of it as life categories for a lifetime, 10 years, 5 years, and this year.

I start with 5 years, but you should start with any or try all of them and find your comfort level. It’s a play!

Let’s play with the Health and Wellness aspect of your life! I guarantee that when you do and follow through with the following, you will see and feel remarkable results. 

A Definite Major Purpose for My Health for 2024

Write 5 or more short sentences on each question:

  1. What positive beliefs do you have about health and wellness in general?
  2. What are your core values related to health?
  3. What is your vision of how you will be in your ideal health?
  4. Why do you want to achieve that health? Your purpose might be even bigger than your vision.
  5. Your Strategy/Action Plan (Most people start here, but as you can see now, it’s unsustainable without 4 previous questions). 

After you have done this, read it all and write a short paragraph as a summary of your answers in the following format:

The Formula = short summary of your answers (fill the blanks)

(the proposed # are just tips, you can use any insights you want)

  • This year I plan to: <..#3..> 
  • And I believe this is possible because I can and will: <..#5..>
  • I shall leverage such resources as: <..#2,#5..> (it can be a plan)
  • And my motivation for this is: <..#3,#4..>
  • Three benchmarks that I will achieve along the way will be: <..#3,#4,#5..>
  • I have faith that this is possible because: <..#1,#2,#4..>

 Read this formula out loud twice a day, every day.
Review your Strategy Plan weekly, and schedule your calendar with actions. 
Your goals will start manifesting very soon. 

Nobody can achieve success just by reading, writing, and accumulating knowledge. You have to become experimental. 

I inspire you to do this for this one category. Take a week to do that.
